I am happy to take on both private and commercial commissions
and have worked with a wide variety of clients over the years.
I use high quality soft pastels which I find is the purest
form of colour, and suits the way I work. I work on a fine-art
glass paper – it has a slightly abrasive surface and is good
at holding large amounts of dense colour. However, the original
works are very fragile and even when framed must be treated
with great care.

The Process
The process of commissioning an original art work from initial
ideas through to the final piece is an interesting process.
Once the subject matter is agreed, the process of producing
a commissioned piece is roughly as follows:
Rough pencil or watercolour sketches will be produced
to outline the painting content.
The client will have the opportunity at this stage to
make amends or request changes.
Once the sketch has been approved, I will start working
on the finished piece. Please note, from this point on it
is hard to make significant changes to the composition.
I will keep you up to date with the progress of your
work, if you wish, by post or email.
The length of time a commission takes will vary considerably
from one job to another. It could be as little as a week
for a simple job, but for a more complex piece involving
research it is more likely to take several weeks. I will,
of course, discuss this with you prior to starting work
on any project.
The final cost of a commission will vary according to size
and complexity of subject matter and it will be affected by
the amount of research involved. Obviously a price will be
agreed in advance of my starting on any commissioned piece.
Commissioning a personal piece of art can be a daunting step,
but, it’s an exciting one at the same time. If you would like
